Raul J Garcia

Raul Garcia studied photography and painting at the College of the Arts - Northern Arizona University. Originally a painter/printmaker, his obsession with the art of photography began in the darkroom where Raul's passion for architectural photography was born - seeing photography as a vehicle allowing him to explore and appreciate the relationships between light, elements of nature and the human interaction with the built environment and the world.

For his profile picture, Raul chose his photo of the Denver Art Museum Frederic C Hamilton Building by architect Daniel Libeskind: "What appeals to me about this this image is how incredibly minimalist it is, in terms of color, and it's overall modernity. We have bold abstract forms of white on white on white, with the only colors being the warmth of the light washing part of the wall, and the colour of the woman's sweater. Lastly, the woman being on her phone in such a place says a lot about our world today. Here in the US, we live through our phones, and often pass up the beauty around us for what is on our screen. Much like the woman in the photo."
